What I liked

Amazing company culture and great people. They are the reason that the company has thrived as much as it has.

What I wish was different

In my specific role, more flexibility to shadow other business analysts on other projects.

Advice

Absorb as much information as you can. There are so many processes, software applications, etc. that can be learned. But also absorb the soft things like the people interactions, the events, the comradery - these are the things that make or break an experience.

Software Quality Assurance Intern

What I liked

There was a lot learning involved in the internship both related and unrelated to the position that I held. I got the chance to be part of a team that worked on a project from the beginning to end under the supervision of experienced developers which exposed me to professional software development practices. I also got the opportunity to shadow other Hylanders in different roles and got to learn a lot about what they did and their experience in the field which proved to be really helpful to me in forecasting my career path. Hyland did an amazing job at making sure my experience is worthwhile.

What I wish was different

Advice

Take advantage of the all the resources available to you especially the people and the team that you work with and to not be afraid to ask questions. There is a vast amount of skills to be learnt and it can get overwhelming especially if you don't ask for help when you get stuck.

The mentors I had were all extremely supportive. The events put on for interns were great and helped us grow closer as a group and company. The work was satisfying and meaningful to the company.

More opportunities to shadow other departments

Ask as many questions as you can, especially what the fulltime developers are working on.

What I liked

The culture there is amazing along with the people. More than just work there. They have afterwork hangouts, food trucks, and activities if you want to.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have gotten to learn more and got to experience other areas within finance.

Advice

If someone else was in my shoes I would tell them to reach out and try to see if they can work with more groups within there department. This would allow them to get different view points of the business.

What I liked

I loved the entire experience! I was lucky to have good management and staff to work alongside, so this created an organized and helpful working environment! I loved working with the kids, and the environment made it easy to do so!

What I wish was different

I wish I had done this sooner! This was a very good experience for me, so I wish I would've known about it sooner!

Advice

If someone is ever questioning whether or not they should do an internship with this company, they should! However, understand that it is difficult to get an internship here, for it is a really good experience. So, one should decide early on and apply quickly!

What I liked

Hyland's culture is amazing. There are over 100 interns at the headquarters in Cleveland, and we were encouraged to spend time and get to know each other. Hyland has a volleyball and basketball court right in the middle of their office, and all employees are encouraged to use it frequently. I was placed on a team where I got to work on a project that utilizes Amazon Alexa within the healthcare software industry. I learned a lot and got to contribute to a significant project for the company.

What I wish was different

I wish Hyland had more locations across the US. While the company is expanding globally, it is still young and only has a few on-site locations.

Advice

The culture of a company is extremely important when considering where to work in the future. A fun, exciting culture makes going to work more than just a job.
