What I liked

It allows for an increase in human communication skills, working with mathematics, and gives more responsibility as you move up. I ran the self checkouts, helped wherever I was needed, and was a great Cashier. With school they worked with my schedule and also this job is pretty easy.

What I wish was different

I did not prefer some of the management but part of having a job is learning to work with people of higher power even if yo sometimes disagree with them.

Advice

If you work at Meijer try to always make the customers happy. You need the customers to have a job! It is a hard thing to forget sometimes, but it is the most important aspect of the job.

What I liked

Meijer has the unique ability of being a private company. With this ability, they are able to move more freely with company based decisions. I believe that through this Meijer is able to create a culture that is far from original. Strong employee relationships along with truly an open door policy makes Meijer a fantastic company to work for.

What I wish was different

Every company has ways to make the internship experience better. Meijer is no different in this aspect, the communication was slightly weak until the start of the internship but they are working hard to change this facet of the experience.

Advice

Make connections, go out of your way and talk to people whose jobs interest you. Everyone is willing to talk to you, make the most of your time there.

What I liked

I helped in front end service cashier's customers and also greeting at the front doors. I know help run the grocery pick up for meijer. I like being able to connect with customers and help them.

What I wish was different

The pandemic of course that put a damper on everyone's mood.

Advice

When a job gets tough you just have to push through it. You're not always going to have a good shift or experience a decent customer. Just power through it.

Tax Compliance Intern

What I liked

I was the only tax intern, so I received a lot of exposure to different taxation concepts. Meijer's culture is phenomenal and they clearly take their interns seriously. I liked living at home while being able to save money from my internship.

What I wish was different

I realized that public accounting may be a better fit as it offers more flexibility with travel and office location. I also wish I got to know other interns better, but being the only intern within the tax department, I found it challenging.
