Guidehouse

Financial Management Intern (Public Sector)

June - August 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I was treated as a full-time employee, respected, and completed time-sensitive work on behalf of Guidehouse and our US governmental agency partner. Was able to research, analyze, and develop solutions to tangible U.S. National Security threats.

What I wish was different

I wish it were in-person; however, the campus recruiting team put on multiple fun intern events for our intern class of summer 2021 (cooking class, service project, yoga event, etc) so that it would feel less distanced and we would be able to meet/ network with fellow interns and colleagues.

Advice

I took full advantage of networking— asked for both in-person and virtual coffee meetings. Grew my LinkedIn network!!

What I liked

I enjoyed the people and the office space. Friendly and safe environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to stay a longer duration of the summer.

Advice

This internship helps one begin to understand about the structure of a work day. Doing things that you need to do outside of work needs to be properly managed and structured. Work takes priority making other priorities more complicated to handle.

National Security Segment Intern

June - August 2020 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Working with a very driven and welcoming team. Challenging tasks with a rewarding outcome. Everyone offered their time to the interns to have virtual coffees.

What I wish was different

Wishing it could have been in-person so I would have had the chance to meet all the wonderful people I worked with face-to-face versus remotely.

September 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Navigant has provided me the opportunity to take my general life experience, and ability to think, and apply it in a context I never had even considered. Don't get bogged down about not having the "right background," if you can sell yourself right, and get your foot in the door (a referral is essential), you can get the job.

What I wish was different

So far I'm really enjoying what I do, and love the work environment. Perhaps if there was an option to work remotely on Friday's that would be great, but otherwise no complaints.

Advice

Focus on growing your personal and professional network as much as possible - without it, a job search will be much tougher, unfortunately.

Management Consulting Intern

June - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Guidehouse did a terrific job involving interns on client based projects. I worked with the Science & Infrastructure team to deliver solutions to the General Services Administration and the TVA. Many opportunities to network and learn about the different services the firm offers.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been assigned to a role more relevant to my background in accounting. While working in the Science & Infrastructure team was an amazing experience, I would have liked to use my accounting knowledge.

Advice

Make sure you ask as many questions as possible during your internship. No one will be bothered or irritated. They know you are new and there to learn, so take advantage of it.
