Brand Advocate Intern

May - July 2023 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The Brand Advocate internship experience was fast-paced with plenty of information to work with during the roughly 11-week duration. I liked the various tools used for analysis of strategy implemented, key performance indicators, and some worked with while in school. I liked the ability to network with other interns, full-time associates, and leadership at The Home Depot. Finally, I liked the support that was given by everyone to help you with any projects you had or to find your strengths should the role you're in not be something you're looking to pursue after the internship.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship experience was calculated based on the role that the intern was assigned. For example, for a role that wasn't information heavy, meetings with the general University Relations should maintain frequent to interact with those students. I think for those assigned to a more information demanding role, meetings should've been prioritized a bit more with internal teams looking to focus towards the project or take more time for the learning-curve of the position.

Advice

My piece of advice while at this internship is to take advantage of the opportunity that everyone wants to help you and learn from them, as well as network with others to see how their experiences have been going, some of them might be interesting and might want to know more.

Cashier

June - August 2023 • Liberty Lake, WA

What I liked

I really liked the culture of the company. It was focused on the values of the company while enriching the experience of the employees. The experience of working a cashier position in an environment such as the home depot was great due to the fact that it came with different adversities every day. But no matter what happened you always had a resource you could use to try and solve the problems.

What I wish was different

There were some minor complaints I had on a personal level but I believe as a whole experience there was not much I would say needs to be improved there.

Advice

Try to focus on the customer service skills you will gain working there. You will gain a lot of good skills there that will definitely be able to help you in any future career endeavors if you are going to be working a job that involves other people.

Flooring associate

March 2021 • Columbia, SC

What I liked

I like how flexible Home Depot is with my school schedule. They are willing to allow you to work in new departments and gain more experience. I’ve only been working there for 7 months and I already know how to do more than half of the departments at the store, the management is so helpful and sweet and they are always there to help you grow. You also create great friendships and long lasting relationship with the employees. We even get a calendar of different dress days to when fun, we recently had pajama day and it was amazing. Working there is great and I’m glad I can still work here while in college.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that was different is the amount of staffing in certain days. Sometimes I would get left with two or more departments and it gets kinda hard, so some help would be really nice, but the managers are really helpful when it’s low staffed.

Advice

Make sure you speak up about what you need and how much you wanna work, because they will work wit you the best they can. Communication with management is key, don’t be afraid to talk to them.

Home Depot associate

September 2021 - May 2022 • Atlanta, GA

I enjoyed how I got to interact with customers and other associates, making everyone's lives a little bit easier by helping them with their projects. It always excites me to put a smile on someone's face!

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have stayed longer, and I would like to have had more experience in my department so I can better help the customers.

Advice

I would like to share that the bosses and employees were very friendly, however, some of the customers may not be as cordial. This is a good time for us as employees to learn how to deal with stressful situations and better our people skills.

Freight and Receiving associate

May 2018 - November 2020 • Woodstock, GA

What I liked

company stock options benefit

What I wish was different

needed more help

Advice

This demanding work was unloading overstuffed trucks that were unsafely packed and required fast work to get products unloaded from the trucks and restocked on the shelves in only a few hours. Full-time co-workers expected part-time employees to work extra hours to help cover staffing shortages.
